BRITAIN is bracing for a 48-hour snow bomb to hit next week with temperatures plunging to -5C thanks to an icy polar blast.
Temperatures will nosedive this weekend with the chilliest nights of the winter expected so far.
A level 2 “severe” cold weather alert has also been raised by the Met Office, meaning there will be danger to life as frigid temperatures pose serious health risks to vulnerable Brits.
Temperatures will drop well below freezing early next week as the UK prepares for a cold December.
A 48-hour snow flurry is forecast to follow the freeze next Thursday, starting in Scotland before covering north-east England and spreading to the south-east.
Up to 5cm of snow is expected across Scotland, Wales and the south of England on Thursday, while some areas are expected to reach -5C by Friday.
