I guess this .
I guess this is the post where I say how compelled I am to discuss events out in America right now. But that’s really not who I am or what we do here. People expect Humor, Hotness, and Humanity here. theCHIVE is a welcome breath of fresh air right now. I think there’s nobility in posting “ “.
You Laugh, You Lose
To kick off 2021 I did want to share some thoughts with you about something I uncovered last night that really impressed me.
But first, I think of theCHIVE as friendly neighborhood corner bar. It is a place you can go to make fast friends. It is a place of thoughtful discourse.
No better example than theCHIVE HQ on Fridays. It’s the physical manifestation of that very notion.
It is the only place where you’ll see Republicans, Democrats, and Independents united on a Friday laughing and carrying on. Certainly anywhere else some of these personalities would be at odds but inside the four walls of theCHIVE, the golden rule of humanity is recognized, always.
Not everybody who enters theCHIVE does so for the free beer or to make a friend, sometimes they come to heal. Some walk in alone, head hung low. Within minutes somebody will be there to talk to them. The vibe found on Fridays at theCHIVE can be found nowhere else in the world. It can’t be described, it must be experienced.
For all the fun we have we are only misfits until it matters.
Here at theCHIVE we will always lead by example. If there’s a job to do, we’ll get the job done. No better example than the fact we have now exceeded the goal of 418 flash campaigns in a row. We all know 418. It was the Arney family flash campaign, a goal which theCHIVE community tripled.
But let’s dive a little deeper. Out of curiosity last night I went digging to see how much charity we did
just in the month of December?
Before the Arney campaign
Chive Charities raised $50,000 for little Isaiah. Then there was the $59,000 for Kenny. Remember DJ? He got his new ADA accessible Van delivered. Angela badly needed $20,000 to take care of the three special needs children she’d adopted, we got her $60,000 instead.
$41,000 for Seth, Let’s not forget Chive Charities achieved the milestone of donating to a recipient in all 50 states with a $10,000 donation to Hawaii Fido, not to be confused with the $10,000 we donated to the Ground Zero dog training facility thanks to our OK Chivers.
Oh, I almost forgot the $39,000 for Lily’s new bathroom. Her father, a patrol officer at Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office asked for help and the Chivers renovated the bathroom in a week. Our Chivettes stepped up big – They raised $18,000 for ‘Toys for Tot’s. SpicyDad and GiraffeGirl teamed up to raise $7,000 for Chivers helping Chivers.
*Spicy and Giraffe must have a crystal ball because
Chivers helping Chivers will be the main theme for 2021.
The goodwill train continued down the tracks when our military editor, Rick Phillip, raised
$20,000 on Christmas Day after ASAF veteran and father of two, Jay Mejia, was killed driving home from the hospital on Christmas Eve. He followed that up a couple hours later with an additional $70,000 for Jon Daly’s Heart of a Lion foundation in, of all things, a post called ‘ Bouncing Boobers‘. Bouncing Boobers raised $70,000. Only theCHIVE, man.
How much did Chivers donate? I don’t even fuckin’ know, a lot – Many hundreds of thousands of dollars but nobody’s keeping close score here. These were jobs that needed to get done and they got done. No other publisher will ever match the sheer tonnage of the charity we do here.
It all starts with our community here at theCHIVE HQ. A reminder that if you are a veteran, first-responder, or cancer survivor, you can pass freely in and out of theCHIVE HQ as you please every Friday. Our Chivettes will happily over-serve you.
The only other way to get in is to possess a gold, silver, or black coin. All of those have been sold out for quite sometime. Unless there was
some kind of backdoor easter egg in this very post.
I guess I’m writing this to impart to you the importance of our community in society today.
The Chive’s importance is often understated but I believe it’s one of the strongest threads in the fabric that holds us all together. At a moment in time where we are more divided than ever, there is no division here, only strength in numbers.
Our Chivers and Chivettes are, to some degree, crazy. It has always been this way. And common logic would dictate if you put millions of crazy people together, the sum of the parts would also be crazy. But it’s the exactly opposite, collectively you possess the highest degree of common sense I’ve ever seen.
There’s nothing more practical than having a job to do and doing that job. United, we did our job over a dozen times just last month. Late last night that revelation led to me pouring a glass of bourbon and raising a glass to all you misfits and writing this (not spell checking).
This year we will be called on more than ever. So lace up your shoes, Chivers. There’s work to do.
PS – As always, this starts with our Green Members at Chive Charities. Explore that small world of heroes right here.
