Wes Nelson and Vanessa Bauer’s ‘perfect’ Dancing On Ice routine disrupted by stumble blunder

WES Nelson lost his spot at the top of the leaderboard in tonight’s Dancing On Ice after suffering an unfortunate stumble in his routine.

The 20-year-old Love Island star gave an energetic salsa performance with his partner Vanessa Bauer to hit song Despacito, but lost marks after messing up before taking on the judge’s challenge.

Wes stumbled towards the end of the routine

Wes and Vanessa scored a total of 33.5 out of a possible 40 marks, with the hunky star telling hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: “I really enjoyed doing the routine, it’s fun and matches my personality.

“I had a little stumble before [the judge’s challenge], but I managed to pick it up again.”

Viewers took to Twitter to share their empathy for Wes, admitting that it was a shame that the blunder had interrupted an otherwise great routine.

One fan wrote: “Actually kinda gutted for Wes as that was perfect apart from the end stumble.”

The stumble cost Wes his place at the top of the leaderboard

Another said: “That was overall great, Wes – strong solo skating. Would have been a 9.0 [but] because of the stumble it’s 8.5 from me.”

A third tweeted: “Wes was really good despite of the stumble.”

The fall meant that Wes’ top competitor in the ITV programme, James Jordan, managed to sneak his way to the top of the leaderboard – nabbing 34 points for tonight’s routine.

James’ achievement matches Wes and Vanessa’s score from last week when they nabbed the highest marks of the series so far.

Vanessa and Wes were praised for their energetic routine

Fans at home praised Wes and Vanessa’s “chemistry” after their sensational Fairytale themed performance that saw Wes dress up as Peter Pan.

The pair performed to smash hit Rewrite The Stars from popular musical The Greatest Showman.

All four judges awarded the stunning routine 8.5 points out of 10, catapulting the pair to the top of the leaderboard with an impressive 34 marks.

In fact, Christopher Dean was so impressed by the skate that he got up to shake Wes’ hand before heaping praise on the star.
