A WOMAN cut off her own hand with a circular saw in a gruesome bid to make £340,000 in insurance money, police say.
The 21-year-old enlisted the help of her family in an apparent injury claim fraud, according to detectives in Slovenia.
She was rushed to hospital in the capital Ljubljana claiming that she was the victim of a horrific accident while cutting branches.
But the woman left the severed hand at home in a deliberate attempt to ensure the injury was permanent, cops claim.
She and a relative have been arrested and each face up to eight years in prison if convicted, BBC News reports.
They allegedly took out an insurance policy in recent weeks and had stood to gain around €400,000 (£340,000).

The money would have been paid out in monthly instalments worth €3,000 (£2,555) under their policy.
Two other family members had been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the alleged fraud earlier this year but were later released.
The severed hand was recovered by authorities in time for medics to sew it back on, officials say.
